The Passage to Real Life

About Us
In addition, PTRL believes in preventive education and lifestyles. To that end, PTRL conducts an annual “Living Drug Free” back to school seminar for children. In this one day event, participants are educated on the dangers of drugs, taught how to resist peer pressure and encouraged to excel in school. They receive a backpack filled with school supplies and a free lunch. PTRL sponsors on-going food bag give- aways, and makes regular visits to homeless encampments with food, hygiene kits and blankets.
Our Mission
Our mission is to heal the individual, connect the family, and unite the community.
OUR CREED:
Members of the Passage to Real Life believe in a “wholistic” approach to life. To that end, we are dedicated to ensuring that individuals are connected to viable resources that will aid them in this practical approach to living.
The PTRL believes that there are 5-key areas to Self-Preservation:
Spiritual: We believe in the power of prayer and faith.
Mental: We believe that a sound mind, free from its own negative barriers enables productivity.
Physical: We believe in the power of a healthy mental and physical self.
Familial: We believe in the power of family and the value of family ties.
Communal: We believe that individuals are more likely to be constructive members of society when they have a vested interest in their community.
The Passage to Real Life believes that there are stages to everyday personal success. We are dedicated to aiding, teaching and demonstrating them to the community we service.
We BELIEVE that we can make a Difference.

Men’s Retreat
On August 26th through August 28th, we held our first men’s retreat at the Lighthouse Resort & Marina in Isleton, California. Lighthouse Resort & Marina is located on the Sacramento/San Joaquin River Delta, which offers boat launches and facilities that support fishing, windsurfing, waterskiing, and sailing, in addition to campsites, picnic areas and trails to allow visitors to explore the marshes and islands of the area. Our goal was to provide a supportive safe environment for men who are typically left out of traditional men’s spaces to relax, restore and recharge.
Attendees were invited to slow down and connect with their authentic selves outdoors by participating in a group walk. The time together outside assisted with setting the tone for the day, making it easier to connect with each other.
The men had the opportunity to address their own self-care, as a massage therapist was invited to provide the service and discuss some of the benefits of massages and positive touch. Although some of the men may have had reservations, the massage therapist provided a warm and welcoming experience for everyone.
A Reiki Therapist was also invited to present. Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. Reiki practitioners use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing. After the presentation, one of our attendees volunteered for a session, at which time, he felt very relaxed and peaceful, eventually falling asleep during the process.
During breaks, attendees enjoyed rest & relaxation time, played basketball and hung out on the grounds.
Group sessions were combined. Attendees engaged in conversations about topics such as: emotional intelligence, self-perception, depression, relationships and family. The sessions promoted vulnerability and reflection, each person had the opportunity to openly share about something they are struggling with and hoping to “Let Go.”
All meals were communal and prepared onsite.
During the evening hours, attendees watched television together, played tabletop games, had genuine conversations and continued to form a bond.
All staff were committed to making this men’s retreat a great time for all who attended. Thank you to Jacoree & Donald for supporting the men overnight, sharing their time and experiences, while encouraging all to be themselves.
